Post #30 – The four CNBLUE Musketeers, ‘burning’ (Lee Jong Hyun), ‘lovely’ (Kang Min Hyuk), ‘untouchable’ (Lee Jung Shin), and ‘emotional’ (Jung Yong Hwa), are conquering the TV screen this year, and it is without a doubt A FIRST IN K-POP HISTORY that all members of a group or band get to play leading roles in K-dramas in the same year, within just weeks from each other.
The maknae Lee Jung Shin has been filming his first lead role in the drama titled “Longing Heart” to be aired in November 2017. He plays a brainy mathematician in this time-travel romance.
Kang Min Hyuk is making waves with his lovely doctor lead role in “Hospital Ship”, working up some amazing chemistry with the fantastic Ha Ji Won. The ratings are proof that they are a great match despite the age difference. The drama aired on August 30, 2017.
Lee Jong Hyun is not on his first lead role this year. The “Lingerie Girls Generation” is a romantic comedy remake, released on September 11, 2017, and takes place in the 70s. Earlier this year, Jong Hyun played On-dal in the time-travel historic comedy “My Only Love Song” launched via a contract with Netflix, and released on June 9, 2017.
Starting October 13, 2017 we will see no other than Jung Yong Hwa in “The Package” a romantic comedy filmed in France. Yong Hwa is not new to playing lead roles or second leads. We have seen him in the legendary “You are Beautiful”, “Heartstrings”, “Marry him if you Dare”, and “The Musketeers”. Recently Yong Hwa has also played a lead role in his first big screen movie “Cooking up a Storm”, a Chinese production.
Having these four all play lead roles is a great accomplishment. The four members of the pop-rock band CNBLUE are otherwise playing guitar, composing songs, singing on stage, playing drums. Acting is a second career, often embraced by certain idols from famous K-pop groups, such as L from Infinite; Lee Gi Kwang from Highlight; Onew and Minho from Shinee; and the list goes on and on. CNBLUE’s major accomplishment is that all four are great actors, and that they were selected to play lead roles, generally assigned to major professional actors. That is a first in K-pop history and maybe a last, since no other group has all members engaged in acting as well.
In addition to their multiple talents, to which ones we can add modeling, photographing, drawing, and many more, CNBLUE has also been recently included in the list of the top 7 most generous K-pop acts who donate money to worthy causes. CNBLUE has been building schools in Burkina Fasso and Philipines for a large number of children, and are providing them with meals and supplies.
